Resolutions
January 15th, 2007(safe for work version)
Thank goodness, the holiday season is finally over. I’m not a big fan of most holidays. I think of Valentine’s Day as a sickeningly commercial bastardization of love. I see Thanksgiving as a day of forced togetherness that has nothing to do with genuine family affection. And don’t even get me started on Christmas. No seriously, don’t; Lucky is getting tired of hearing my little rant. But the one holiday that I can really get behind is the celebration of the new year. Whether you party hard on New Year’s Eve, or host a family barbecue on New Year’s Day, this is a time that almost everyone gets excited about. There are no religious affiliations, you don’t have to buy any presents, and you can spend it with anyone you want. There are a hundred different parties to choose from, or you can celebrate at home with only your special someone and a bottle of champagne. No matter how I choose to celebrate, my favorite part is the reflection that comes with the start of a brand new year. I can look back over the past year to revel in my successes and learn from my failures. I can look at the year ahead with hope and determination. As my favorite literary heroine, Anne Shirley, would say, “tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet.”
So, to celebrate my favorite time of year, here is a look at the past year and my thoughts and resolutions for the year to come.
Fond Memories
The theme for this year was friendship. From events as fantastic as Burning Man, to places as unlikely as MySpace, I made amazing friendships that enriched my life and, often, my bedroom. You can see this theme in many of my posts from the past year. And speaking of past posts, here is my list of my top 5 favorite posts from 2006:
And my top 5 favorite Overexposed photos from 2006:
Looking Forward
What will be the theme of the next year? My guess is Experiences. I’ll be turning 30 at the end of February, so it’s time for me to stop being timid or reserved and start living life to the fullest. You may think I’ve been doing that already, based on the stories you’ve read here, but I think this year will be even better.
And with that, here are my resolutions for 2007:
-
I resolve to write more often. My sex life hasn’t slowed down, but my writing sure has. I definitely plan to make more time for writing over the next year. And I’ll take this resolution one step further. In 2007 I’d like to get published. No, I’m not expecting a book deal like Girl With A One Track Mind’s, but it’s time I started to fulfill my dream of becoming a professional writer, no matter what the medium.
-
I resolve to lose those last pesky ten pounds. What would New Year’s be without a weight-loss resolution? Through a change in diet
and a committed exercise program
, I’ve lost over 20 pounds over the past year. I look great, and I feel even better. But now it’s time to kick it up a notch to reach my goal. If you think Lucky’s pictures are hot now, just wait and see what’s next.
-
I resolve to be on time. Whether I’m meeting friends for dinner, or posting a podcast, I am notoriously late. It’s a lifelong habit that I plan to finally outgrow.
-
I resolve to learn something new. I’ve been toying with the idea of going back to school to focus on my writing. If I can work out the details of time and money, I’ll do it. But even if that doesn’t work out, there are other options. Whether I am checking out books on writing from the library, going to lectures on human sexuality, or just taking those belly dancing classes I’ve been thinking about, I never want to stop learning.
And now, just for fun, here are the top 5 sexy things I’d like to try in 2007:
- Use a double-dong with another girl.
- Swap partners with another couple and have sex in the same room.
- Dance at amateur night at a strip club.
- Try out some intense, full-character, costumed sexual role-playing.
- Have an all girl orgy.
So there you have it. Does anyone else have any resolutions they’d like to share? What was your favorite post of 2006? What will you try this year? I can’t wait to hear all about it.
